When Katie contacted me and asked, “Hi, Mrs. King! You taught me senior English. Do you remember me?” my reply was, “Ummmm, of course, Katie!! You were only one of the sweetest, smartest, most driven and hard-working students everrrrr!” Needless to say, I was thrilled that Katie asked me to be the one to photograph the day she would marry Trevor, her high school sweetheart. There’s something so special about teaching seniors. You witness their horizons expand beyond high school and are so excited about the journey they will embark on. It was an absolute honor and joy to teach Katie and then photograph her wedding.
It was band meets drill team when Trevor’s family moved to Texas from Louisiana, and as a new school year began that fall, he marched his way straight into Katie’s heart! (See what I did there? :P) Trevor swiftly got Katie to be his “band buddy,” and Katie was quickly won over by his goofy sense of humor and would later grow to love his adoration of Star Wars movies.
The pair remained close friends, but by the next semester, they had their first date: they saw Beauty and the Beast (the cartoon version digitally remastered for theaters in 2012). They continued to watch the movie each year on the anniversary of their first date.
As if that is not sweet enough, I am also so incredibly impressed with Trevor’s proposal to Katie! He learned how to play “Beauty and the Beast,” on the piano and surprised her by playing it for her when she walked into the Smith Family Chapel, the church where they would later marry. I can’t even handle the sweetness of these two together. It is so very easy to gush on about how CUTE they are! Because they are!! They are sweet and positive and both have smiles that absolutely GLOW. But beyond that, they are genuine, gracious, driven, and so very thoughtful. I could not be happier for them.
Weddings and holidays bring out so much JOY, but these special days can also bring on reminders of pain if a loved has passed as is not able to be physically present. Katie recently experienced the loss of a dear friend, Stacy Danielson, who was the director of the drill team at our school. As an officer, Katie worked alongside Stacy, and they bonded over the fact that they both danced for the famous Kilgore Rangerettes. I know Stacy had a profound impact on her high school dancers, and I love the relationship that Katie and Stacy had. I know Katie was thinking of her at her wedding, and I also had her on my mind throughout Katie and Trevor’s day.
And what a day it was. It was absolutely beautiful and full of JOY. Katie and Trevor had their First Look beneath the stunning oak trees at Antebellum Oaks, and were then wed at the Smith Family Chapel at Riverside. They performed a surprise choreographed dance after their First Dance that had their friends and family on their feet!
Katie and Trevor, I am beyond thrilled for you! Katie, I loved seeing you go from that sweet and determined 18 year-old sitting in my class to an incredible young lady who is now MARRIED! You and Trevor were made for each other, and I can’t wait to see what is in store for you both in the future!
