Claire + Mike | Lakeside Engagement Session

When Mike first tried to flirt with Claire, it went rather poorly. I absolutely LOVE awkward stories and false starts, so I was loving every moment when Mike described the encounter! It was Halloween, and Claire was an adorable coffee to-go from Starbucks, complete with a cute little lid on her head. When Mike saw her hat, he thought it was one of those Halloween hats that adhered to your head via a tiny white rubber band that goes under the chin. He thought, If I playfully pull this, it’ll gently snap back down, and Claire will laugh and be impressed by my efforts to woo her! However, the lid was actually nailed down into her hair via hundreds of bobby pins. So when he tugged it, he proceeded to yank all of her hair up into the air, causing pain to Claire’s head! Claire was not so impressed. L However, it was an icebreaker, and the two began chatting and realizing they might have a connection!

Mike and Claire both hale from Virginia, where they plan to build their life together.  The couple has had to endure the challenge of long distance as Mike has been stationed at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas. Claire flies down to Killeen often to visit Mike, and it has become a place for her to relax and enjoy spending time with her fiancé. Mike’s friend has an adorable pup, and Claire and Mike LOVE taking this pup out on adventures with them! One of their favorite spots is on the lake at Dana Peak Park, so they chose this beautiful location for their engagement session!

I am always thrilled to shoot in new spots, especially when the place is so special to my couple. I know it is a *little* different, but this lakeside location really reminded me of California, and I felt a sunny, California vibe throughout their session. Shooting on the lake proved to be a little bit challenging since there was not much shade from the afternoon sun! However, Claire and Mike were troopers as I tucked them into the shade of some bushes (“Come forward, go back, forward again… Ummmm Just right!”), and we made it work! When the sun finally did drop down, I started shooting like a maniac, and got all sorts of excited. Claire and Mike loved on each other and were all smiles for their entire session!

Claire and Mike, thank you so much for having me capture your engagement session! It was so beautiful and so FUN. Best wishes to you!!!
