It was not supposed to be 40 degrees on an otherwise lovely—yet a bit gusty—spring day in Hye, Texas. However, the surprise near-freezing temperatures were absolutely no match for the warmth that Andy and Whitney exude in one another’s presence.
It was at work that they first met—a relationship kept quiet until it was apparent that they are a perfect match for each other. Whitney and Andy are geologists, a passion that carries over to their love of hiking and exploring. In fact, it was on the tip top of a mountain that Andy proposed to Whitney.
While she may have been covered in goosebumps and was slightly windblown, Whitney was a total trooper on our rather chilly day. She is no stranger to challenges, and actually had an adventurous upbringing. Her father took his wife and three daughters on worldly escapades, complete with sea snakes, crabs, and leopards! Oh my!
They embraced the beautiful Texas landscape for their wedding day, hosting their wedding at the Hye Meadow Winery just outside Fredericksburg. After their First Look, Andy and Whitney held their ceremony beneath the towering oak trees. As a nod to their Scottish heritage and love for Scottish and Irish traditions, they decided to have a handfasting ceremony, in which their hands were tied together as a symbol of their marriage vows. They named each of their tables after a mountain range they hiked together, treating guests with anecdotes of adventure.
Whitney and Andy, your day was absolutely beautiful. Thank you so very much for having me be a part of it! Here’s to many, many adventures! First up—New Zealand!
